Project Details
In 1787, Thomas Lord, a Yorkshireman born in Thirsk, founded a cricket ground in London, for use by Marylebone Cricket Club. Lord’s Ground was to become one of the most famous sporting locations in the world. The Home of Cricket in St John’s Wood is still home to MCC today, staging domestic and international cricket matches. Lord’s has hosted other sports besides cricket and the iconic Grade II*-listed Pavilion, built in 1890, provided a spectacular backdrop to the archery competition as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
